Replica of Gandalf's sword.
Gandalf is an imaginary character from the legendary works of British writer J. R. R. Tolkien, appearing in The Hobbit and then The Lord of the Rings.
This mysterious old man, described as a wizard (in fact, a member of the Istari), plays a crucial role in both novels: he sets events in motion in the first and acts as a wise advisor throughout the second, in contrast to his superior Saruman.
Gandalf goes by many names and nicknames. Described as the "Grey Pilgrim" or the "White Rider", he is one of the main antagonists of Sauron, the Dark Lord; it was because of the latter that Gandalf was sent to Middle-earth to assist its inhabitants against him.
Tolkien's texts published after his death explain Gandalf's origins and nature: he is one of the Maiar.
