STAR WARS - Doormat - 100% official
Star Wars is a science fiction fantasy universe created by George Lucas in 1977. Originally conceived as a cinematic trilogy released between 1977 and 1983, the saga was later expanded to include three new films released between 1999 and 2005, recounting events prior to the first trilogy. The first trilogy (episodes IV, V and VI) and the second trilogy, known as the "Prelogy" (episodes I, II and III), were huge commercial successes and generally well received by the critics. For the sake of consistency and to achieve a result that he had not been able to obtain from the outset, the creator of the saga also reworked the films from his first trilogy, re-released in 1997 and 2004 in new versions.
The Light Side
Driven by the ideal of Good, people affiliated to the Light side strive to serve others in symbiosis with the Force. The basic principles are benevolence, assistance and preservation. Strong emotions are proscribed, such as hatred and fear, which are considered to be linked to the Dark Side. Its followers defend peace and maintain the balance of the Force in the galaxy.
They also have a "deist" conception of the Force, which they refer to as a kind of benevolent supernatural entity that guides the actions of living beings in the galaxy. This is illustrated by the expression "May the Force be with us". The aim of a Jedi is to enter into communion with the Force through the Light in order to achieve absolute wisdom.
Dark Side
Fear, hatred, aggression and ambition are the foundations of the Dark Side. Its followers' sole aim is to increase their powers and ultimately dominate their rivals. The powers of the Dark Side are generally not used for the benefit of others, but always for personal gain. The Dark Side is also addictive: the more you embrace it and accumulate powers, the more you want to strengthen your ties with the Dark Side and its powers. The Sith view of the Force is more utilitarian. It is simply a power of Nature, which they must learn to master and tame. And even if it has a will of its own, a Sith is only fulfilled by bending it to his own. This is where they differ from the Jedi, black or light, who are seen as playthings of the Force in one sense or another, whereas a Sith acquires total freedom, free from the laws of the Universe, in absolute mastery of the dark side. However, this vision is more characteristic of the ancient Sith Empires than of Palpatine's personal dictatorship: Palpatine often refers to the Dark Side as a deity, like an evil alter-ego of the Light, and mentions the notion of "Destiny" several times to convince Luke to join him.
Paradoxically, love is just as forbidden among the Jedi as it is among the Sith. The Jedi order consider it too strong an emotion, likely to lead to the Dark Side; conversely, the Siths believe that it can lead to the Light through the emotional relationship it induces. Anakin Skywalker went over to the Dark Side to save his wife Padmé Amidala, and returned to the Good Side to save his son Luke.
Note that the expression "Dark Side" is frequently used in culture to refer to the temptation to use immoral means to achieve objectives that we believe to be just.
