Harry Potter is a fantasy sequel comprising seven novels and a play, written by J. K. Rowling and published between 1997 and 2016. It has been translated into French by Jean-François Ménard.
It follows the adventures of an apprentice wizard named Harry Potter and his friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, run by Albus Dumbledore. The main plot of the series centres on young Harry Potter's battle against a reputedly immortal and super-powerful dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, who once killed his parents. Voldemort, who heads a loyal group of dark wizards known as the Death Eaters, has been trying to seize power over the wizarding world for decades.
Eight successful films (the last novel was split into two parts released eight months apart), video games and numerous other spin-off products have been adapted from the series of novels.
