Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is an American-British fantasy film directed by David Yates, released in 2016. It is a spin-off series from the Harry Potter saga and will be followed by four other films. J. K. Rowling wrote her first screenplay for the film.
For her, Fantastic Beasts is not a prequel to the adventures of Harry Potter, but an "extension of the wizarding world" for those familiar with the Harry Potter saga. It is in fact a spin-off series, focusing on several secondary characters mentioned or present in the Harry Potter story, such as Gellert Grindelwald, Norbert Dragonneau and Albus Dumbledore.
