Severus Snape, a mixed-blood wizard, is a teacher at Hogwarts. He began as a Potions teacher, then Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, before becoming Headmaster of Hogwarts. Severus is also Headmaster of Slytherin House. An enigmatic teacher, he has hated Harry Potter since birth, perhaps because he is James Potter's son. Best friend of Lily Evans, he is persecuted throughout his school years by Sirius and James, which leads him to hate James.
