According to legend, it was Ragnuk I who made the sword for Godric Gryffindor. When he finished his work, Ragnuk coveted the sword and claimed that Godric had stolen it from him. He sent his servants to retrieve it, but Godric fought back and refused to return the sword.

The goblin king eventually gave up and reluctantly left the sword in Gryffindor's possession. This gave rise to the false legend of Gryffindor stealing the sword, a legend that still persists among some goblin groups, such as Gripsec.
