Hermione Jean Granger is one of the main characters of the Harry Potter saga written by J. K. Rowling. Hermione is the best friend of Harry Potter and Ron Weasley and during her time at Hogwarts she resides in Gryffindor House.

In the movies, her role is played by Emma Watson.

Hermione is a 'Muggle-born'. She first appears on the Hogwarts Express, where she meets Ron Weasley and Harry Potter and asks them if they have seen Neville Londubat's toad. Listening to her, Harry quickly realises that she is very knowledgeable and has obviously read every book on wizardry available to her. At Hogwarts, she always answers first in class and regularly tries to stop Harry and Ron from breaking the rules, which makes her dislike them - especially Ron. Later, after being rescued from a troll by the two boys, she helps them with their homework and lessons and becomes less ascetic. Gradually, a true friendship develops between Harry, Ron and Hermione.

During a Quidditch match, Hermione discreetly sets fire to Professor Snape's cloak, whom she wrongly suspects of bewitching Harry's broom to knock it down. Together with Ron, she helps Harry overcome obstacles to find the Philosopher's Stone. During the Cup of Four Houses ceremony, Professor Dumbledore rewards her 50 points for solving Snape's potions riddle, which was designed to prevent anyone - especially Voldemort - from getting the stone.
